Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦25 million to Shanahan University in Onitsha, Anambra State, as part of his continued support for education and human capital development.
Obi disclosed this in a post shared on his X handle on Sunday following a visit to the institution, where he reiterated his belief that investment in education remains the foundation for sustainable national development.
According to him, no country can achieve meaningful progress without prioritising the development of its people through quality education.
“I remain firmly convinced that no nation truly develops without investing deeply in human capital. The more a society invests in education, the more sustainable its development becomes. Education remains the most critical driver of progress; the more educated a state is, the more its prospects to develop become,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor explained that his latest visit to Shanahan University was in line with his longstanding commitment to supporting institutions that are contributing to the growth of future leaders.
“Guided by this conviction, I visited Shanahan University, Onitsha, Anambra State, again yesterday, an institution I have supported on several occasions. During the visit, I continued my support with an additional donation of 25 million Naira,” he said.
Obi commended the university’s management, lecturers and staff for their efforts in providing quality education and instilling strong moral values in students.
“I wish to sincerely commend the management, lecturers, and staff of the university for their dedication and the excellent work they are doing in nurturing a new generation of morally upright, academically sound, and socially responsible leaders. I am particularly encouraged by the vision and commitment of the institution to building a better society through quality education,” he added.
He also urged students of the institution to remain committed to their academic pursuits and maintain hope for a better future.
“I also urge the students to remain focused on their studies and to keep hope alive. The future belongs to them, and with discipline, hard work, and strong values, they can play a vital role in building the New Nigeria we all desire,” Obi said.
The donation adds to Obi’s long record of interventions in educational institutions across the country, reflecting his advocacy for increased investment in education as a pathway to national development.
“A New Nigeria is POssible,” he concluded.
