Rivers State APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha
Former Nigerian Bar Association President, Chief Onueze Okocha (SAN), has advised the Rivers State House of Assembly to refrain from investigating retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the former Sole Administrator.
Speaking to reporters in Port Harcourt on Monday, Okocha emphasized that the Assembly should dedicate its efforts to strengthening the state through effective legislative action rather than engaging in what he described as an unnecessary probe.
He argued that the proposed review of Ibas’ financial conduct during his six-month emergency administration was unwarranted.
“If the probe goes ahead, it might be seen as a witch-hunt,” Okocha warned, noting that Ibas was simply fulfilling a task assigned by President Bola Tinubu.
Okocha further stressed, “Ibas deserves honor and respect. It would be unfair for lawmakers to investigate someone they neither appointed nor oversee.”
He called on the Assembly to let go of the probe and instead work toward peaceful governance and democratic stability in Rivers State. “There’s an urgent need for harmony among the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary if we are to progress,” he added.
In closing, the former NBA President urged lawmakers to focus on fostering cooperative relationships across government branches to build a stable democratic environment.
