Says Borno to get 30 megawatts solar power supply

The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has arrived Maiduguri , the Borno State capital on Thursday on a day state working visit .
Osinbajo, who landed at Maiduguri Air Force base airspace at 11.20 am was received by Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum and members of his cabinet.
The Vice president was in Maiduguri to witness the official handing over of center of International Studies and International Conference Centre built and donated by business mogul and philanthropist, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi to the management of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID)
It will be recalled that Alhaji Muhammed Indimi International Conference centre together with Centre of International studies were earlier commissioned by President Mubammadu Buhari on 23rd December, 2021.
While handing over the keys of the edifice to Professor Aliyu Shugab, Vice Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Prof. Osinbajo disclosed that a 30 megawatts solar power supply will be established in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State as discussions and plans have reached an advance stage between the federal government and Borno State government.
“My office, the Borno State Government and Yola Distribution Company are currently working assiduously to ensure the establishment of the solar power plant to critical areas.
” Six different stations will be constructed in different locations of Maiduguri city,” Osinbajo said.
The VP also commended Muhammadu Indimi for building and donating the international conference centre and center for distance learning which was constructed at the cost of N2.5 billion while calling on other individuals to emulate him in the overall interest of humanity.
Osinbajo further noted that no economic development could prosper without sound transportation system through modern technology while citing one of the leading technology company in Nigeria vibrantly sustaining and improving its capacity and economic growth of the nation.
He added that a situation where politician gives scholarships to 50 students of his alma mater even his company staff to study master degree in various schools within and outside the country is worthy commendable, pointing out that, such needed to be encouraged in the interest of our children and future of the country.
The Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba in his remark expressed appreciation and gratitude to Alhaji Muhammadu Idimi and Govenor Zulum for their support and assistance to the institution.
He said the modern edifice will go a long way in improving studies programmes and boost academics activities. He also thanked the VP for his visit to witness the handing over of the facilities to the University authorities
On his part, the convener and donor of the centers, Alhaji Muhammadu Idimi said the gesture was to encourage children education, having discovered the value of education to children and humanity.
He disclosed that he has never been to school and nobody taught him any alphabet or figure but today he can read and write even better than some university graduates which informed his foundation to give scholarships to hundreds of Nigerians to study in tertiary institutions within and outside the country.
In his remarks, Governor Zulum appreciated the Federal Government and Vice President for their frequent and honest support and Interventions to Borno state especially the IDPs and orphans.
He also commended the resilience and concern of Alhaji Idimi for his support and assistance to the people and government of Borno State.
