Pastor, wife, one other killed in Bauchi fatal crash

ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –

Three people have been killed in a fatal crash that occurred on Thursday afternoon along Bauchi-Darazo road in Bauchi state.

NATIONAL ACCORD learnt that among the deceased are a Pastor and his wife.

According to a source who spoke to our correspondent, the deceased who were working with Gino Company, were said to have been traveling to Azare, Headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State for promo activation.

She said that the deceased Pastor is from Cameron while his wife hails from Benue State, adding that the couple were recently engaged on a part-time basis with Gino Company inorder to meet up with their financial demands.

She stated that they were four in the vehicle, three of them died except the driver who survived.

The source said: “I have known the couple for a long time, though I haven’t seen them for a long time until yesterday (Friday). I saw them yesterday at the Central market and I even hugged his wife tightly and this was hours before their unfortunate death.

“We greeted and chatted for a short while and they told me that they were going to Azare for promo activation for their company, Gino. They went on Thursday and came back that same day. They where going back on Friday to continue with the promo activation when the accident occurred.

“We greeted and parted ways; that was around 10am. It was barely about four hours later that a colleague called to tell me that the three people I saw a while ago had died.

“I shouted and kept shouting in shock and disbelief and it was that my colleague who called to inform me that hung up the call.

“This is the first time they are going to the field because they were engaged only recently as temporary staff of the company.”

She said that the Pastor initially survived the crash and was rushed to the hospital but after about 45 minutes, he died while his wife and their other colleague died instantly.

The source who described the incident as shocking and devastating said: “I feel saddened and pained. If I had not even seen them that yesterday and four hours before their death, it wouldn’t have been this painful.

“It is really shocking and unfortunate. I am very devastated because I even hugged the woman.”

She said that the corpses of the couple were brought back at about 6 pm and deposited at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi mortuary, while the that of the third person was take by his relatives for immediate burial according to Islamic rites.

They left behind three young children.

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp, Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the crash to our correspondent, said the crash occured at exactly 2.34pm on Friday along Darazo – Kari road, 21 Kilometers from the Darazo FRSC office.

Abdullahi said that the crash involved a private car, Citroen Wagon, with number plate: BAU 569 AA, red in colour, which was driven by one Moses Kefas.

He said that the crash was caused by wrongful overtaking.

“The driver overtook a vehicle and and after he went back to his lane, he lost control and then veered off the road and crashed,” he stated, adding that the victims were conveyed to General hospital Darazo for medical attention and confirmation.

He said that the sum of N21,000 cash was recovered from tg scene of the crash.
