People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State Mr. Paul Tion has decried the state of roads in Makurdi saying most of the roads have become impassable and death traps.
Addressing journalists in Makurdi, the PDP Chairman informed that some of the roads in Makurdi metropolis have suffered neglect for a long time and that was affecting the residents.
The Chairman noted that Ishaya Bakut and Atiku Abubakar roads which are in the heart of the city have become unmotorable.
According to the Chairman, roads which were not in the heart of the city were more in deplorable condition as most parts of such roads have been cut thereby disconnecting the residents from their neighbours.
He described the underpass under construction at High Level part of the city as misplacement of priority as he insisted that other areas were begging for attention.
The Chairman explained that the money the state government was sinking in the construction of the underpass could conveniently fund about five or more projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the Benue people.
Speaking further the Chairman stated that traffic in Makurdi was not yet congested to have necessitated the construction of underpass.
He lamented that the snail speed work on the underpass has even worsened the sorry situation of the roads close to it even as it has blocked the available drainages and there is nor free flow of water.
Tion called on the APC led Government of the state to give more attention to the roads in Makurdi metropolis and other places to give the residents a sense of belonging.
