Waziri announced his exit at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe
A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Board of Trustees member, Alhaji Adamu Waziri, has resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Waziri announced his exit at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe, citing national interest and the need to restore democratic values.
Waziri described his decision as “difficult but necessary,” stressing that the current PDP leadership no longer aligns with the vision of a credible opposition party.
“I was a member of PDP, and due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign,” he said.
“The PDP constitution demands that I come to my ward centre to formalise this action.”
Waziri appealed to his associates to join him in the movement to recreate a vibrant democracy and deliver good governance for Nigeria.
“My boys, I urge you to join me in this new movement to restore democratic values and ensure good governance for our nation,” he said.
The PDP Ward Chairman, represented by Malam Muhammad Bomai, accepted Waziri’s resignation “with deep regret,” describing him as a national figure and pillar of the party.
“On behalf of the party, we accept his resignation with a heavy heart. Waziri has been an institution within the PDP, and we will feel his absence deeply,” Bomai said, before announcing his own resignation from PDP and defection to ADC.
Waziri’s exit from PDP is seen as a significant blow to the party, with some analysts speculating that it may be a precursor to more high-profile defections.
The ADC, on the other hand, is likely to benefit from Waziri’s experience and influence in Nigerian politics.
