The Coalition for Democratic Sustainability and Good Governance (CDSGG) has expressed strong support for the possible defection of Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a timely and strategic realignment capable of repositioning the state politically and developmentally.
Speaking at a press conference in Jos on Friday, Hon. Nurudeen Inuwa, who addressed the media on behalf of the coalition, urged citizens to view the development as a pragmatic step towards strengthening Plateau’s access to federal support and enhancing long-term political stability.
The coalition noted that ongoing conversations surrounding the governor’s political direction have elicited mixed reactions across the state. However, it stressed that Plateau requires unity, maturity, and strategic alignment at this critical moment—not partisan confrontation.
CDSGG argued that harmonising with the political leadership at the centre would accelerate ongoing development projects and further reinforce Plateau’s relevance in national decision-making.
Inuwa clarified that the governor’s potential defection should not be misconstrued as betrayal or party disloyalty, but as a forward-looking decision rooted in the broader interest of the Plateau people.
“This moment demands maturity, wisdom and foresight. The governor’s possible move is not about politics for politics’ sake; it is about ensuring Plateau is not isolated from the core of federal decision-making,” he said.
The coalition appealed to leaders of both the APC and PDP to prioritise peace by establishing a soft-landing framework that would eliminate political friction, rancour or retaliatory tendencies.
It also urged stakeholders, elders, and supporters to assess the unfolding development not through sectional or partisan sentiments, but through what it described as the Plateau imperative —safeguarding peace, boosting investor confidence, and ensuring continuity in governance.
“This is not the time for hostility or political warfare. It is a time for cooperation. If key actors agree that this transition should happen, it must be seamless and free of bitterness,” Inuwa added.
CDSGG further cautioned social media users and political commentators against heightening tensions through unverified claims or divisive narratives, urging them instead to promote calm and unity.
The coalition concluded by calling for collective wisdom as political dynamics evolve, insisting that Plateau’s progress must remain the overriding priority.
