Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang
By CHRISTIANA LOT, Jos –
In a significant effort to safeguard citizens and uphold public order, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has enacted a 24-hour curfew in the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, starting at midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
According to a statement from Mr. Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs at Government House Rayfield, Governor Mutfwang made this decision following consultations with state security agencies. His choice came after observing the troubling actions of individuals who exploited recent nationwide protests to perpetrate violence against innocent residents.
The governor reported that these criminals, armed with daggers, machetes, and other lethal weapons, targeted businesses along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, stealing food and various valuable goods.
Emphasizing the curfew’s importance for public safety, Governor Mutfwang urged all citizens to comply fully to ensure the well-being of everyone in the area. He instructed security forces to strictly enforce the curfew throughout the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis.
He also issued a stern warning to anyone planning to carry out further attacks on the community, advising them to cease their actions immediately or face severe legal consequences.
Additionally, the governor called on security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive to thwart any potential threats to law and order.
Governor Mutfwang expressed his appreciation to the citizens of Plateau State, particularly religious leaders, for their steadfast support of the government’s policies.
He acknowledged their cooperation during the recent nationwide demonstrations and commended their dedication to preserving peace and harmony.
“The commendable conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is inspiring. I urge everyone to maintain this culture of peace as we collaborate to create a united and progressive Plateau,” Governor Mutfwang stated.
