Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang
A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has openly urged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to dump the party and pitch his tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting the switch would be in the state’s best interest.
The group, drawn from PDP members across Plateau’s 17 local government areas, staged a peaceful march in Jos on Monday to press their demand. Among those present were several notable PDP figures, including former Jos South party chairman, Dung Tari.
Leading the charge, Christopher Danjem said the political realities in the state and at the national level made Mutfwang’s defection both “necessary” and “strategic.”
“We the members of the coalition of PDP members from across Plateau are calling on our governor to join APC,” Danjem declared. “Having analysed the political situation in our dear state and country, it has become very necessary for the governor to move to the ruling party.
“The governor is a performer and architect of good governance; we can see what the Federal Government is also doing. So, we want him to align with President Bola Tinubu so that he can attract more federal projects to Plateau.”
Danjem also applauded President Tinubu for what he described as the President’s consistent concern for Plateau, especially regarding the state’s security challenges.
Marching from Secretariat Junction to the New Government House in Little Rayfield, members of the group presented a letter formally urging the governor to “immediately” cross over to the APC.
Receiving the letter on behalf of the governor, Chief of Staff Jeremiah Satmak thanked the group for its show of support. He assured them that their message would be conveyed to Governor Mutfwang and appealed to residents to continue praying for the administration’s success.
