Kano State Police Command has arrested three key suspects over the shocking murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis, an incident that has sparked widespread outrage across the state.
The suspects — Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, from Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada — were apprehended during an intelligence-led sting operation. Police disclosed that Auwalu, identified as the leader of the gang, is a nephew of the deceased woman.
The gruesome attack reportedly occurred on January 17, 2026, when the victims were killed inside their residence by assailants who initially fled the scene.
A distress call received shortly after the incident prompted an immediate police response and a comprehensive investigation ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and supervised by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were arrested between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18.
During interrogation, Auwalu allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed that the group had carried out similar attacks in the past.
Police further alleged that the same gang was responsible for other violent crimes in Kano, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters.
Recovered items from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a locally made club known as gora, cash suspected to have been stolen from the house, and other dangerous weapons.
The Kano State Police Command said investigations are ongoing to track down additional accomplices and fully uncover the scope of the suspects’ criminal activities.
The police also commended officers involved in the operation and expressed appreciation to members of the public for their timely information and cooperation.
