Ogun State Police Command has apprehended 22 suspected members of the Aiye cult, including two soldiers, during a raid at a hotel in Osiele, Odeda Local Government Area.
The operation, detailed in a statement by CSP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, took place on Saturday in Abeokuta.
According to Odutola, the arrests were made on July 25 at 8:20 p.m. by a joint team of officers from Odeda Division, Aregbe Division, the Anti-Cultism Unit, and SWAT, under the leadership of SP Adejoh Israel.
Acting on reliable intelligence, the team stormed the hotel, targeting suspected Aiye confraternity members. Items recovered during the operation included a locally made cut-to-size gun, a UTC axe, and several blue beret caps.
The suspects have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Anti-Cultism Unit in Eleweran for further investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating cultism and violent crimes, encouraging residents to provide actionable information to support ongoing efforts.
