At least 3,300 heads of households, mostly vulnerable residents in Askira-Uba and Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State, have received palliatives comprising bags of rice and other food condiments provided by their representative in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Usman Balami.
The distribution exercise commenced in Askira-Uba Local Government Area and was flagged off by the lawmaker’s representatives, including his Senior Legislative Aide (SLA), Hon. Medugu Yawal. Also present was the Deputy Chairman of the council, Hon. Bilyaminu, who represented the Executive Chairman, Hon. Mada Saidu, alongside other party officials.
The exercise later moved to Hawul Local Government Area on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. There, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Mamman Mshelizah, joined Dr. Balami’s Senior Aide, Hon. Yusuf Kumpter, the LGA Party Chairman, Hon. Yahaya Gerha, and other stakeholders to supervise the distribution.
Speaking during the exercise in Hawul, Hon. Balami, who was represented by his Senior Aide, Hon. Kumpter, said the initiative was designed to cushion the economic hardship faced by many households, particularly vulnerable groups across the constituency.
He explained that the gesture was also aimed at supporting residents to fulfill their spiritual obligations during the holy month. According to him, the distribution was carried out in line with the guidance of the Borno State Governor, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, to ensure the items reach the intended beneficiaries.
Dr. Balami assured the people of his continued commitment to their welfare regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliations.
“As you can see, this palliative is for everyone irrespective of your background.
“These palliatives were distributed ward by ward based on polling units to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries,” he said.
According to his aide, Dr. Balami has remained consistent in supporting his constituents during both Christian and Islamic festive periods through the distribution of fertilizers, palliatives, economic empowerment programmes, and other legislative interventions.
Beneficiaries of the programme reaffirmed the lawmaker’s slogan, “The People’s Mandate,” and pledged their continued support.
Expressing appreciation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Executive Chairman of Hawul Local Government Area, Hon. Yusuf Mamman Mshelizah, commended Hon. Balami for the initiative. He noted that the gesture would complement the efforts of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in delivering dividends of democracy to people at the grassroots.
He also thanked the beneficiaries for their peaceful conduct during the distribution and urged them not to sell the items but to use them for the purpose intended.
Mshelizah further called on constituents to use the period to pray to Allah (God) Almighty to bring lasting peace not only to Borno State but to the country as a whole.
