The crescent of Shawwal, the 10th lunar month, signifying the end of Ramadhan, has been sighted in Tumair and Sudair, in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
Consequently, Friday, the 21st of April, 2023, is the Eid-l-Fitr celebration in the country.
This was announced via a verified twitter handle of the two holy mosques of Makkah and Madinah, ‘Haramain Sharifain’.
The physical search for the new moon was carried our by a team of astronomers led by Dr Abduallah Khudair.

The search from the eastern provinces of the Kingdom, a few minutes after the sunset was negative, according to the Supreme Courts.
“No sightings reported from eastern provinces of the Kingdom a few minutes after sunset, the Supreme Courts has been informed.
“Tumair observatory in central region is recording ‘witnesses’ who have sighted the moon.”
While Muslims in Nigeria await the sighting of their own crescent and subsequent announcement by Amir (Leader) of Muslims in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto and the President General, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.
Recalled that the Sultan had on Wednesday called on Muslim community to watch out for the Shawwal new moon crescent today Thursday.
