Sen. Ogba re-elected Ebonyi Football Association Chairman

Sen. Obinna Ogba has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Ebonyi Football Association.

Ogba, who is the Senate Committee Chairman on Sports, was returned unopposed alongside Chikaodi Ojemba, who emerged as the vice chairman.

Mr Friday Agbom, the Chairman of the committee which conducted the election, announced that Ogba polled 14 votes to emerge winner.

Ogba in his address, thanked the delegates who voted for him and assured them that he would continue uplifting football in the state.

“I also thank my board members for all we achieved in the past four years and pledge to re-dedicate myself to the cause of service.

“Football is my hobby and when one is in charge of an area he has passion for, he will perform creditably,” he said.

He said that despite daunting challenges, he will continue championing the growth of football in the state.

“We did not receive any financial assistance from the past adminstration in the state but we hope that the new one would partner with us to enhance football.

“The new administration is led by a young sports lover who has passion for the sector,” he said.

He noted that the association under his leadership had acquired land for the construction of a secretariat which would commence soon.

“We have ensured the state’s participation in all editions of the federation cup despite unimpressive performances due to paucity of funds.

“We have also ensured that players from the state participate in national  competitions and play for reputable clubs.

“We urge the new administration to float football clubs to return the state to its past glory and benefit its talented youths,” he said.

Ogba also said that the stadium he attracted at his hometown Nkalagu was nearing completion while some sports oriented bills he sponsored had been assented into law,” he said.

Chief Sunday Dele-Ajayi, an Executive Board Member of the Nigerian Football Federation, who monitored the election, commended the delegates for ensuring a hitch-free exercise.

Dele Ajayi, who is the Chairman of the Ondo football association, noted that Ogba would bring his wealth of experience to bear in promoting football in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that nine board members of the association were also elected during the exercise. (NAN)
