Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu has began the distribution of essential drugs and mama kits worth over N1.6bn to 244 Primary Health centers across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Speaking before the flag off, the governor said the programme was part of his administration’s modest effort to boost the healthcare service delivery especially at the grassroots, hence having improved health care services as a top priority.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have expended the sum of N1,663,245,000 for the purchase of essential drugs, Antihelntic and hem tonic drugs, under 5 children drugs, mothers and children drugs, misoprostol and chlorohexidine gel as well as mama delivery kits to be distributed in all our primary health centers in the state”.
While clarifying that the drugs were purchased based on requests by the local government councils, the governor added that his government has followed the governance pattern of his political mentor, former governor and now Senator, Aliyu Wamakko by ensuring that health care services are accessible and affordable to all manner of people.
“This free medical care programme has helped greatly in encouraging our rural populace especially the pregnant mothers, to attend antenatal care. Thereby reducing in no small measure cases of maternal mortality and child morbidly in Sokoto state”.
The governor, however, warned against sabotage or diversion of the drugs, adding that his government will deal decisively with any local government chairman found wanting.
He further urged security agencies to be vigilant and apprehend anybody found culpable, even as the governor appealed to the people of the state to continue to support his programmes and polices geared towards making the state better for all.
