Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has approved ₦6.154 billion as counterpart funding for Anambra’s Universal Basic Education (UBE) grants for 2022 to 2024.
This approval will enable the state to access an equal matching grant from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), amounting to ₦12.308 billion for a fresh round of UBE intervention projects across the state.
The planned projects include building new classrooms, renovating old ones, and supplying desks and chairs to schools.
Additionally, water and sanitation facilities will be installed in primary and junior secondary schools in various communities.
The funds will also support fencing of schools, provision of ICT tools, and supply of agricultural and sports equipment.
“These initiatives are intended to create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning in our schools,” said Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, Chairperson of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB).
She thanked Governor Soludo for his continued support and commitment to advancing quality education in Anambra.
She said the release of funds will significantly impact the state’s education sector, providing much-needed infrastructure and resources for schools.
With the UBEC grant, Anambra State is poised to make significant strides in improving the quality of basic education, ultimately benefiting students and the community at large.
