Stakeholders identify risks faced by deradicalized women, girls in Borno

Community stakeholders from Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government Area of Borno State at a one day town hall meeting held at Women Development Centre Maiduguri on Wednesday alleged that most repentant women and girls that have passed the process of deradicalization in Borno State are still faced with issue of stgmatisation.

The stakeholders observed that some of deradicalized returnee women and girls do go back to the bush to meet their couples while a few serve as informants to the terrorists, thereby jeopardizing the transitional justice for reconciliation and reintegration process

It was further suggested that security measures should still be intensified by the security agents and Vigilante hunters and CJTF in the remote areas as threats to framers and firewood fellers are still being experienced in some places despite the efforts of government and security agencies.

The stakeholders also recommended participation of community leaders and other religious and ethnic leaders in the execution and implementation of transitional justice and other government projects and programmes in their communities.

The also urged the government to set aside specific roles and responsibilities of the traditional institutions with a view to make them effective in the discharge of their responsibilities as custodians of the people.

The community stakeholders were also enlightened thoroughly during the training by the facilitators including: Dr. Lawan Balami, Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant of Allamin Foundation and Comrade Zanna Shettima, the former State Chairman of NLC and NANHWUN, Borno state, who coordinated and anchored the training workshop on the roles and importance reconciliation and reintegration.

Earlier, the Executive Director/CEO, Allamin Foundation, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin in her opening remarks appreciated the ongoing collaboration and support of the community stakeholders from LGAs, MMC and Jere LGC while highlighting their crucial contributions to the project’s design and implementation.

Represented by the Allamin Foundation Project Manager on Reintegration, Mr. Samuel Orahii, she emphasized that the community stakeholders dialogue as avenue for them to express their views, concerns and requirements for effective implementation of the transitional justice, reconciliation, and reintegration initiatives in Borno State.

Other areas of deliberation include a recap of the First Community Dialogue, Security Risks faced by De-Radicalized women and girls as well as Action Points from Communities in addressing risks faced by the de-radicalized women and girls from MMC and Jere LGA of the state.
