Subsidy removal: Kefas unveils Taraba palliative care initiative

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has unveiled the state palliative care initiative to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on the citizens.

 

The unveiling ceremony held at the Taraba State Government House  in Jalingo on Wednesday, provided alternative plans, which was presented by the governor before the organize labor, trade union and stakeholders in the state.

 

Governor Kefas said in order to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on the citizens, critical policies will be implemented by the state government.

 

He, however, said that despite the fact that the fuel subsidy removal may have its merits, it also brought about economic calamities on the people.

 

He explained that  the palliatives care initiative on fuel subsidy removal will conduct a comprehensive need assessment to understand the specific challenges by different communities and demographics in Taraba State.

 

The governor further reiterated that his leadership would immediately provide public transportation and food subsidy, partner with other transport unions to subsidize public transport fare for commuters in the state.

 

He disclosed that about 163 wards across the state will receive free fertilizer, 760 multi-purpose mini-tractors at the subsidized rate to farmers, and would also implement the Minimum Wage beginning from Oct 2023, as well as Operation Clean up Taraba state, were 10,000 women and youths will gain employment and place on N15,000 as monthly salary.

 

He said a tasks force committee will be inaugurated to ensure effective implementation.

 

“We have constituted a Palliative Care Committee Task Force, which is charged with the responsibility of ensuring that all the above listed palliative measures are implemented.

 

“The task force will also resolve all the bottleneck and relates with ministries and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation, he said.

 

The governor reiterated that on the hike of food price, the government Will collaborates with local farmers and vendors to ensure that food items are affordable through subsidized prices.

 

“This will help stabilize the cost of feeding and ensure that no one goes hungry during this difficult time” the governor stressed.

 

Dr. Kefas, however, assured that his government will strengthen the social support network such as health care services and education, which will be of priority, and will also make resources available to ensure that essential services remain accessible to all regardless of their financial circumstances.

 

He appealed to the concerned group and stakeholders to support the initiative, as “together, we can overcome the challenges and build a stronger, more inclusive government and be the beacon of hope for the people, while exemplifying compassion and solidarity in the face of adversity.
