Kogi Assembly Speaker,  Umar Yusuf,

The Kogi Assembly Speaker,  Umar Yusuf, on Thursday appealed to Gov Yahaya Bello to provide succour for citizens of the state to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal by the Federal Government.

The speaker, who made the appeal at the state legislature’s plenary in Lokoja, said the people of the state were not finding life easy with the current economic hardships in the country.

“This appeal to our good hearted governor became imperative in view of the fact that things are hard as a result of the subsidy removal by the Federal Government.

“I am indeed appreciative of the people of the state for conducting themselves lawfully in spite of the current discomfort and economic hardship.

“I am also optimistic that the new direction of the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello will leave no stone unturned at providing succour to the people of the state, ” he said.

Yusuf commended the organised labour in the state for their show of understanding and maturity by way and manner they conducted themselves during Wednesday’s nationwide strike.

He charged the labour force to continue to exercise patience with the renewed hope mantra of President Bola Ahmed-Tinubu.

According to him, the president is not only determined to change the dynamics of Nigeria’s economy from a dependent to a productive one, but focused on achieving a robust and sustainable economy.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mr Suleiman Abdulrazak, had raised a motion calling on Gov Bello to set up a monitoring committee for the distribution of Federal Government’s palliatives to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.

The motion was supported by members, who took turns to narrate the various categories of hardships being caused by the situation and called for urgent government intervention. (NAN)
