Super Eagles of Nigeria
Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed to the 26th position in the latest FIFA World Ranking, released on Monday, signaling a remarkable rise in global football standings.
The new ranking, published on FIFA’s official website, reflects a 12-place leap from Nigeria’s previous 38th spot, accompanied by a notable +79.09 points gain.
This surge comes on the heels of the Super Eagles’ impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where Nigeria finished third after a hard-fought victory over Egypt in the consolation match last Saturday.
Under the guidance of coach Eric Chelle, the team displayed remarkable coordination, resilience, and teamwork throughout the tournament. Nigeria suffered only one defeat, a narrow semi-final loss to host nation Morocco via a penalty shootout, but secured a third-place finish to round off a memorable campaign.
The top 10 in the latest FIFA rankings remain familiar football powerhouses: Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany. On the African continent, Nigeria now ranks third, behind Morocco and Senegal, followed by Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tunisia, Congo DR, and Mali.
Nigeria’s upward trajectory in global football is now undeniable. The Super Eagles’ performance at AFCON 2025 not only boosted the nation’s ranking but also cemented Nigeria’s reputation as a growing powerhouse in African football—showcasing a team that skillfully blends homegrown talent with international experience and earning admiration from fans worldwide.
