Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for standing by him before, during, and after the November 16, 2024, governorship election in the state.
At the same time, he reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the pledges made throughout his campaign to the residents of Ondo.
Aiyedatiwa shared these sentiments while speaking at a lively Thank-You rally in Akure, aimed at celebrating the support from locals.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) noted that the procession kicked off at Akure Airport upon his arrival, winding through Oba Ile and Oba Adesida before culminating at Democracy Park, where he rallied an enthusiastic gathering.
NAN further reported that on Wednesday, the Supreme Court dismissed the legal challenge mounted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Social Democratic Party (SDP) against Aiyedatiwa’s electoral triumph.
The governor expressed delight at reuniting with the supporters who propelled him to victory, pledging to build on the positive initiatives already underway.
“You all came out and voted for me across the 18 local government areas of the state. Some people were not pleased with the result, went to court and at the apex court, decided to withdraw their case,” he said.
In a poignant moment, Aiyedatiwa observed a one-minute silence in honor of the late SDP governorship candidate, Bamidele Akingboye, who passed away just weeks earlier.
He reiterated his thanks to the people for their unwavering mandate and solidarity throughout the electoral battle.
Former Ondo Deputy Governor Lasisi Oluboyo also extended congratulations to Aiyedatiwa and the state’s residents on the win, expressing confidence in the governor’s upcoming achievements.
Additionally, Ifedayo Abegunde, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), described the outcome as a collective triumph for Ondo, underscoring that it reflected the unyielding determination of its citizens. (NAN)
