Bishop of the United Methodist Church of Nigeria (UMCN), Rev. Emmanuel Ande, has distributed 45 motorcycles to district superintendents to improve evangelism and pastoral outreach in rural and hard-to-reach communities across the country.
The motorcycles were presented on Monday during a ceremony held at the Blue Nile Hotel in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
Speaking at the event, Bishop Ande said the donation was aimed at easing the transportation challenges faced by district superintendents, many of whom travel long distances to carry out church assignments and oversee activities within their districts.
According to him, the motorcycles will enhance their mobility, enabling them to carry out regular visitations, preaching, and evangelistic activities more effectively in remote communities.
He noted that the initiative was made possible by the prevailing peace, unity, and cooperation among members of the church.
“The district superintendents many of them face significant challenges, many of them have to travel several miles to attend to their assignments, the church thought it wise to provide these mobility to all districts supritedents to attend to their various activities.”
Bishop Ande explained that the district superintendents serve as representatives of the Bishop’s office in their respective conferences, making it necessary for them to have reliable means of transportation to effectively discharge their responsibilities.
He expressed optimism that the motorcycles would improve the church’s evangelism efforts and strengthen its presence in rural communities where access has often been difficult.
Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke with NATIONAL ACCORD, expressed appreciation to the church leadership for the gesture and pledged to put the motorcycles to good use.
They assured that the motorcycles would enhance their missionary work, facilitate regular pastoral visits, and boost evangelism within their respective jurisdictions.
