BY ANKELI EMMANUEL, Sokoto –
Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has frowned at the degree of epileptic power supply to consumers in the state by Kaduna Electric Distribution Company (KAEDCO).
Tambuwal who spoke at Sokoto Guest Inn during KAEDCO interactive session with consumers in the state, added that the culture of estimated billings should be halted for prepaid meters without delay.
Represented by the State Commissioner of Energy and Petroleum Resources, Hon. Aliyu Dandinmahe, Tambuwal urged KAEDCO to always hold consumers in top priority, hence they are the life wire of the existence of any business venture.
While noting that over 80 percent of the distribution infrastructures in the State that are now worn out were provided by Sokoto State Government, Tambuwal urged KAEDCO to replace obsolete infrastructures and admonished energy consumers in Sokoto to also step up their payment culture.
He said: “KAEDCO should try to supply more quality pre-paid meters, as majority of the customers in Sokoto do not have meters, and majority of them are not comfortable with that, hence, they are forced to pay at times even when they never enjoy such power”.
Responding to the governor and complaints by consumers in Sokoto, KAEDCO Chairman Board of Directors, Abbas Mohammed Jega decried that only 30 percent of consumers in Sokoto are paying their bills promptly.
He further appealed to all consumers to take responsibility of protecting transformer, feeders and all other installations that will help KAEDCO serve customers better.
On his part, KAEDCO Head of Operations, Engr. Aliyu Abbas maintained that no distribution company has increased bills on its own but that all increments comes from the Federal Government.
He also informed customers that KAEDCO do not give bills to customers who do not enjoy power supply for two weeks before the bill date.
