Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has approved more than N2.5 billion in funding for the Federal University of Transportation Daura (FUTD) in Katsina State, marking a major step toward enhancing its growth and capabilities.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal, shared this update during a Saturday interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura.
From the 2025 intervention package, he noted that N1.3 billion will focus on expanding physical infrastructure and refining academic programs.
Additionally, around N240 million is earmarked for training and advancing academic staff, N150 million for bolstering ICT resources, N185 million for library enhancements, and N170 million to support conference participation.
Prof. Adam-Katsayal further detailed allocations including N100 million for institutional research, N180 million for maintaining TETFund projects, and N85.5 million for developing entrepreneurship centers. Career guidance centers and units will receive N100 million, journal publications N25 million, and manuscript development another N25 million.
In a forward-looking initiative, the vice chancellor announced the launch of a staff cooperative society, with a vision to enable every interested employee to own a home within the next five to ten years. He highlighted available university-adjacent lands and called on investors to partner in constructing affordable housing tailored to staff contributions, ensuring options for all worker levels.
“The aim of this was to see that the institution’s staff, either juniors or seniors, did not experience what some workers are facing, like retiring without a house to move in,” he explained. (NAN)
