Theater Command inaugurates special court martial to trial erring soldiers

The Theaters Commander, Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai Theater Command, Major General Ibrahim Ali, has inaugurated a Special Court Martial for the Theater Command to attend to all allegations, offences and crimes committed by various officers and soldiers of the Command across the north east region.

While inaugurating the officials of the special court martial at the Theater Command Headquarters Officers Mess on Tuesday, General Ali, charged the officers and soldiers of the theater command to live up to their professional callings, urging them to maintain decorum at all times as well as to respect the sanctity of the court.

The Theaters Commander also assured them that the special Court Martial would do justice to the accused persons,, saying,” Justice would equally be done to the state as well as the victims with your corporation and guidance.”.

General Ali further urged members and officials of the Court martial to be dispassionate in the discharge of their duties while appealing to them to ensure the speedy disposal of these cases as justice delayed is justice denied.

He said: “I welcome you all to the Theatre Command officers’ Mess, venue for the sitting of the Special Court Martial which I convened for the trial of officers and soldiers who were alleged to have committed various offences.

“It is the tradition in the military that when an officer or soldier is alleged to have committed an offence, a court of this nature is convened to try such personnel in order to establish his guilt or otherwise.

“Members and court officials should know that the task ahead of them requires sacrifice; bearing in mind that they are required to do justice to the accused persons as well as to the system.Thus, we should as much as possible avoid any form of negativity that would undermine the smooth conduct of the court.

“To the lawyers in our midst, please be reminded that as ministers in the temple of justice, your professional conduct must be top notch. You must do your utmost in assisting the court at achieving justice. I will please appeal that we all work towards the speedy disposal of these cases.

” It is obvious that members have other assignments to carry out at their various Units and also, it is expedient that the accused persons need to be relieved of the shackles that have been on their necks,” Gen. Ali sad.

The Theater Commander be further said,’ “This court is convened to discharge the task assigned to it responsibly as the service has found you worthy to do so. For the secretariat, you are all professionals, tasked with keeping accurate records and ensuring the smooth running of the court.”

” I charge you to live up to your professional callings. You are to maintain decorum at all times as well as to respect the sanctity of the court. I assure you that this court would do justice to the accused persons. Justice would equally be done to the state as well as the victims with your corporation and guidance.

“Thus, this court is officially inaugurated today, 14th March, 2023. So, I urge members and officials of this honourable Court martial to be dispassionate in the discharge of their duties. I appeal to you to dispassionately ensure the speedy disposal of these cases as justice delayed is justice denied.

“Finally, as the Court progresses with its activities, I pray that the Almighty God gives you the wisdom and guidance, individually and collectively, to discharge your assigned task,” Gen. Ali added.
