UNIMAID Governing Council appoints new substantive Vice Chancellor

In a special meeting held on Wednesday 18th September, 2024, the Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele as substantive Vice Chancellor of the University with effect from 18th September, 2024.
A statement signed by the Registrar of the University, Ahmad A. Lawan, said the appointment of the new VC followed the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board, which interviewed four (4) applicants for the post.
The appointment according to the statement takes effect from 18th September, 2024.
Professor Mele is a distinguished scholar of English Language and Linguistics with over two decades of dedicated service in Teaching, Research and Community Service in the University.
He has held many Academic and Administrative positions in the University including the immediate past DVC (Central Administration). Until this appointment, he was the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University.
