Vandalized TCN tower
Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that one of its power towers, Tower T347, located along the Gombe–Damaturu 330kV transmission line, was vandalised on Friday evening, around 5:46 p.m.
The disclosure was made by Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Mbah, a TCN maintenance team conducting a routine inspection discovered that the tower’s legs had been cut off, causing it to tilt dangerously to one side.
She explained that the incident resulted in a partial disruption of bulk power supply to parts of Borno and Yobe States, including Maiduguri and Damaturu.
> “In spite of the setback, bulk supply is still being maintained through the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP), which currently feeds the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC),” Mbah said.
She added that electricity is being distributed through major 33kV feeders serving Beneshiek, Damasak, Bama, University Campus, Maiduguri Town, Monguno, and other areas.
> “Additionally, Damaturu and its environs will continue to receive supply from the Potiskum Substation for now,” she noted.
Mbah confirmed that TCN engineers are already on-site, working to replace the damaged tower and restore normal power transmission as quickly as possible.
She strongly condemned the act of vandalism, describing it as sabotage against critical national infrastructure, and appealed to the public to help protect power assets.
> “We urge citizens to report any suspicious activity around transmission facilities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office,” Mbah added.
