The arrested suspects

By DANJUMA JOSEPH Lafia –

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Nasarawa Eggon, the headquarters of Nasarawa Eggon LGA of Nasarawa State, has apprehended six suspected kidnappers at their hideout in Tudun Waya.

NATIONAL ACCORD gathered that during the operation, the vigilante men also rescued seven abducted victims in possession of the suspects.

The suspects our correspondent also gathered were responsible for the recent spate of kidnappings along the Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Lafia road.

Reports have it that the suspects, who normally operate either early in the morning around 5:30am and evening from 7pm, usually blocked one lane of the newly constructed express way and abduct innocent travellers.

Following their arrest, the suspects were taken to the state Police Headquarters in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution.

It was gathered that the successful operation by the Vigilante Group, has been met with cheers from the residents of the area, who have been living in fear due the spate of kidnappings.

All efforts to get across to the Nasarawa Eggon LGA Chairman, Alhaji Danlami Mohammed (Odasco), for comment, proved abortive because his phone numbers were switched off.

Even the text message sent to him via same numbers for several hours couldn’t be responded to.

When contacted, the Nasarawa State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said he could not confirm the arrest as at the time of filing the reports as the command had not been officially notified.
