VP Shettima, Kadufur, others attend funeral prayer for late Tahir Monguno

Vice President Kashim Shettima, accompanied by Acting Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, joined thousands of mourners at the funeral of Alhaji Tahir Mohammed Monguno, father of Senator MT Monguno.
The ceremony took place at the Senator’s residence in Old GRA, Maiduguri, and was led by Imam Idaini of Borno, Imam Shettima Mamman Shettima Sale.
The Vice President, who was accompanied by Deputy Senate President Sen. Barau Jibrin, Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, Minister of Agriculture Sen. Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Solid Minerals Bakaka Bashir Garbai, and other dignitaries, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
He described the late Alhaji Tahir as a respected community leader and a father figure who contributed significantly to the development of Borno State.
Acting Governor Umar Usman Kadafur delivered a eulogy, praising the late Alhaji Tahir for his wisdom, kindness, and generosity. He recalled his contributions to the state’s development, particularly in the areas of education and healthcare.
The Acting Governor also prayed for the reposed soul of the deceased and for the immediate family to have the fortitude and courage to bear the loss.
The late Alhaji Tahir, aged 95, passed away on Saturday night after a protracted illness. He left behind 17 children, including Senator MT Monguno, and numerous grandchildren.
The funeral was attended by a large crowd of mourners, including members of the National Assembly, Secretary to Borno State government Hon. Tijjani Bukar, former deputy governor Hon. Usman Mamman Durkwa, members of the Borno State house of Assembly, commissioners, deputy chief of staff Alhaji Haruna Hassan Tela, special advisers, permanent secretaries, Islamic clerics, politicians, and other top government functionaries.
The ceremony was a testament to the respect and admiration that the late Alhaji Tahir commanded in his community. His contributions to society and his role as a unifying force were celebrated by all who attended. The funeral procession was led by the Imam of Borno, and the deceased was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
