Residents across the South-East who have experienced reduced electricity supply in recent days have been offered an explanation by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
The company said the decline in power supply was triggered by low electricity frequency, a situation traced to gas constraints currently affecting electricity Generation Companies (GenCos) nationwide.
Explaining the situation in a statement issued on Tuesday in Enugu, EEDC’s Group Head, Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, said the challenges at the generation level had a ripple effect on power distribution across the region.
“The development has necessitated the load shedding of available energy by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN),” Ezeh stated.
He noted that the situation had directly affected the volume of energy allocated to EEDC, leading to reduced daily service levels for customers served by its subsidiary companies — MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra, and EastLand.
“As a result, energy allocation to EEDC and daily service levels for customers served by its subsidiary companies – MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra, and EastLand – have been impacted,” he said.
Despite the setback, EEDC assured customers that steps are being taken to resolve the issue, stressing that industry stakeholders are actively working to stabilise supply.
“Efforts are being made by key stakeholders in the electricity supply industry to address the challenge and restore normal power distribution,” Ezeh added.
He also tendered an apology to electricity consumers across the region for the inconvenience caused, saying, “We appreciate the patience and understanding of electricity consumers across the South-East.”
