Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has promised to dualize the Apo to Wassa road, a significant addition to the region’s infrastructure.
Wike made this commitment during the inauguration of the completed 15-kilometer left-hand service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Stage II.
The project, which began in 2017, was initially valued at N6 billion but increased to N21 billion after variations in 2021.
Wike expressed his determination to complete the project, saying, “I promised the contractor that we will make money available and to the glory of God today, we are here to inaugurate the road.”
The completed road is expected to improve connectivity, ease traffic movement, and promote economic activities in the area.
Wike noted that the road would link Takushara and Kabusa communities, opening up rural areas for development.
“This is what has been lacking, and Tinubu has made it very clear that his drive is not just to develop the city but to open up rural communities for development,” he said.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, emphasized the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development and improved quality of life for FCT residents.
“This very vital infrastructure fully demonstrates our commitment to sustainable urban development, enhanced mobility, and improved quality of life for the people of the FCT,” Akpabio said.
Wike also announced plans to relocate Apo Mechanic traders and artisans from the OSEX road corridor to Wassa, promising to supervise and chair the exercise.
He urged FCT residents to continue paying their taxes to enable the administration to undertake more infrastructural development projects.
