FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Friday commissioned the newly completed Transit Way (N2) road, a major route connecting Wuse Zone 3 to Abuja’s Central Area — and pledged a fresh wave of education and health infrastructure across the capital.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Wike highlighted the significance of road development in transforming Abuja into a truly modern and investment-ready city.
“There is no development in any city without a good network of roads,” the minister said.
“When all the cities are linked with good roads, then you can talk about development. Road infrastructure attracts investment.”
The N2 Transit Way, supported by two key bridges, is part of a broader infrastructure plan aimed at marking President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.
According to Wike, the corridor project was inspired by a community-driven initiative near the TY Danjuma Foundation before being expanded by the FCTA to enhance regional connectivity.
Wike revealed that a Dubai-based investor has committed to replicating the City Walk experience in Abuja — a sign, he noted, that global confidence in the FCT is growing.
“We’re working to position Abuja as a benchmark for modern cities through roads, schools, health facilities, and policies that welcome investment,” he said.
The minister also announced an aggressive scale-up in education infrastructure, disclosing plans to refurbish at least 40 more schools across the FCT.
This comes in addition to 70 ongoing school projects, of which 45 have been completed.
Attention, he added, would soon shift to healthcare infrastructure. Emphasizing urgency, Wike issued a stern directive to top officials:
“Time waits for nobody. If you don’t know how to meet up, go and ask those who know how to keep up with the speed I work with,” he warned, urging 24-hour communication readiness among senior staff.
The inauguration is part of a series of project rollouts scheduled through late October. More capital development initiatives are expected to be unveiled from November onward.
Also speaking at the event, Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, hailed the N2 road as a crucial step toward decongesting traffic and boosting urban mobility in the city centre.
“This project is another proof that the Renewed Hope Agenda is translating into real, visible benefits for the residents,” Mahmoud said.
She commended the National Assembly for their ongoing collaboration and legislative support:
“Your role in ensuring that the FCT receives the needed budgetary attention and oversight is highly commendable, and today, we are witnessing the fruits of such partnership.”
