Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has renamed the Abuja International Conference Centre after President Bola Tinubu.
The renaming ceremony was part of activities marking Tinubu’s second year in office.
Wike praised Tinubu’s leadership, saying, “Today Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre is a match with any other international conference centre in the world.”
He thanked the President for supporting the FCT Administration and demonstrating a cordial working relationship with the Executive, Judiciary, and Legislative arms of government.
Wike emphasized the need for sustainability, stating, “I want to let everybody know… if you want to use this [conference centre], you have to pay something. That is the only way it can be sustained.”
Tinubu described Wike as a transformative leader, noting the centre’s dilapidated state before its renovation.
“It was a very dirty, disorganised, uninhabitable environment… You won’t come back to find it in a dilapidated state, and today I am very happy.”
The ceremony also saw the naming of halls after notable figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
The renovated conference centre is expected to host international summits, exhibitions, and corporate events, solidifying Abuja’s position as a hub for global gatherings.
