Anambra industrialist, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, has commended the Nigerian immigration Service (NIS) officer, Mr. Ugochukwu Orji, who arrested a fleeing suspected ritualist at Seme border.
Chief Onunkwo, who is the Managing Director of Seahorse Lubricant Limited and aspirant for the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election, rewarded Orji with N5 million for his gallantry and integrity.
He praised Orji for refusing to be bribed with sums ranging from N3 million to N15 million. “Orji stood for justice at a time money tried to buy his conscience,” Onunkwo said.
He expressed delight that there are still men of honor and integrity in Nigeria, exemplified by Orji’s courage and sense of duty.
Onunkwo urged the Nigerian Immigration Service to officially reward Orji and called on the government and institutions to recognize and honor Nigerians who show exemplary behavior.
“Let this be an example to others that honesty is not only possible in this country but it also pays,” he said.
Onunkwo condemned the ritual act and those who participated in it, saying they must not be allowed to escape justice.
He also called on well-meaning Nigerians, civil society, and the Federal Government to spotlight Orji’s bravery and use his story as a campaign for ethical leadership and national transformation.
The suspected ritualist, Levi Obieze, was being pursued by authorities after his property was burnt by a mob in Enugu following allegations of ritual activities involving human lives.
Orji’s bravery and integrity in apprehending the suspect have been commended by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.
