R-L: Ondo PDP Governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of APC.
By OLA MODUPE, Akure –
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2024 Ondo election, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, has vowed to appeal the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s verdict upholding Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s victory.
It would be recalled that the Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has declared Governor Aiyedatiwa of the APC, the winner of the November 16, 2024, governorship election, dismissing petitions from five opposition parties, including the PDP, for lack of evidence.
Reacting to this in a statement on Tuesday in Akure, Ajayi expressed disappointment with the tribunal’s decision.
He said, “We feel disappointed that we didn’t get justice at that level, but we remain undeterred and undiscouraged in our search to ensure that justice is not only served in this matter, but also ensure that honesty begins to prevail in our election process.
Ajayi reiterated his commitment to seeking justice, stating, “We restate our conclusion to vitiate our rights and desires towards advancing our commitment to the legal process by appealing the judgement of the tribunal at the Court of Appeal.”
He emphasized that Nigeria’s democracy would be a “mere mockery” if electoral laws were not adhered to.
*PDP’s Next Step*
The PDP and Ajayi will proceed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the tribunal’s verdict.
Ajayi’s determination to seek justice has sparked hope among his supporters, who believe that the appeal process will bring about a fair outcome.
