A coalition of stakeholders and youths of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has called on the party’s national leadership to ensure justice, fairness and adherence to constitutional provisions in resolving the controversy surrounding the party’s May 2026 primary election.
The group, operating under the banner of Kwara Stakeholders and Youths, warned that failure to transparently address concerns arising from the exercise could undermine party unity and affect the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement jointly signed by prominent party stakeholders and youth leaders, the coalition expressed dissatisfaction over the emergence of Salihu Yakubu Danladi as the party’s candidate, saying the outcome of the primary had continued to generate debate among party members who expected a credible and transparent process.
According to the group, supporters of Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa believe that every valid vote cast during the primary election should be recognised and reflected in the final outcome, stressing that the wishes of genuine party members must not be overshadowed by the influence of a few individuals.
The stakeholders noted that the APC leadership at the national level has built a reputation for promoting due process and internal democracy, insisting that only duly constituted committees and authorised party officials have the constitutional authority to announce and validate primary election results.
They added that precedents set by the party in handling similar disputes across the country highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability and strict compliance with established electoral guidelines.
The coalition maintained that democracy thrives when rules are respected and contestants are given equal opportunities, stressing that political parties become stronger when grievances are addressed through legitimate channels.
Describing Bolarinwa as a loyal party stalwart with extensive grassroots support, the group said his contributions to the growth of the APC in Kwara State had earned him widespread acceptance among members across the state.
The stakeholders, however, said their position was not driven by personal interests but by the need to protect the integrity of the party and preserve the principles of internal democracy.
They urged the APC national leadership to act decisively in the interest of justice, fairness and unity, warning that unresolved disputes could create opportunities for opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
