As part of its activities to mark the World’s Children Day, UNICEF in collaboration with Goal Prime Organization Nigeria and Da Rerrafe Yaron Kan Tashi have trained a 15 years old blind boy, Bakura Muhmadu for six months to become a newscaster and journalist in future.
The child who lives in London Viki area of Maiduguri metropolis with his father and lost his mother when he was one month old, is an SSS I student of Borno state Special School (formerly Borno state Deaf and Blind School) located at Madagascar area of Maiduguri where he started his education from primary 1 to 6 and JSSS 1 to 3 before being promoted and admitted into SSS 1 by the same school.
Bakura Muhammad, in an interview shortly after his broadcast on the World Children Day at Al Ansar FM 96.1 Radio Station in Maiduguri on Monday, said his ambition to become a newscaster has received the consent of his beloved father, who motivated him to dedicate himself to the training being organized for the children by UNICEF.

He said:”I was inspired by the manner, honestly, good attitudes of my father towards me. I always stay close to my dad with his small radio listening to news daily in the morning, in the afternoon and evening.
“Worst of it all, is that he (my father) also listen to the radio especially the Huasa service news of BBC, VOA,I RFI, DW and even others in the night around 8 pm untill 11 pm before going to sleep.
“This inspires me to the extend of developing interest in news and I made up my mind that whenever I grow up, I will become a newscaster with a television or radio station purposely to cast news as a journalist.
“So, I made the decision to become a journalist, particularly, a newscaster with radio or television station. And what encouraged me the more was the news I once heard about two physically challenged students, a male and a female, who were admitted into different courses at University of Maiduguri, studying Mass Communication”, he said.

Bakura also explained that to cast news in any tv or radio station despite his physical challenge, still remain his dream that he wants to achieve in the future.
He appreciated UNICEF, Da Rerrafe Yaron Kan Tashi , Goal Prime Organization Nigeria, Al Ansar FM Radio and Global Partner on Education for their supports in sponsoring the programme.
He therefore called on children to alway prioritize their education and dedicate themselves in the pursuance of their education as future leaders of the state and country at large.
