Club De Pals, Abuja, the association of Tiv elites and professionals resident in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on the Police to expedite investigation and charge the suspects reportedly arrested in connection with the recent killings in Yelwata, Benue state, to Court of competent jurisdiction so that justice can be served.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the group also demanded that although the identities of those arrested was still unknown, “investigations should go deep enough to unearth the possible sponsors of the attacks and not only the errand Militia operators.”
In the statement, jointly signed by its President, Trustee Richard Nduul and the Secretary-General, Arc Robert Unde, Club De Pals said it was shocked by the genocide visited on the serene Yelewata Community of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State on the night of Friday, 13th June, 2025 by the invading Fulani Herdsmen Militia.
It noted that in the said incidence, “the Fulani Militia launched unprovoked attacks on this peaceful community murdering over 200 people in cold blood. The Militias in the military-like operation, set many houses ablaze and opened fire on those who attempted to escape.”
.

The rest of the statement reads: “This incident climaxed numerous attacks on defenceless Tiv Communities by the Fulani Militia in the last few years across14 LGAs of the state.
“The sustained violent campaigns by these attackers leaves no one in doubt about their intentions, which is to kill the people and dispossess them of their ancestral lands. We hasten to condemn in the strongest possible terms these attacks and call on the Police, the Army and other Security services to pay more than a passing attention in their operations to ensure that such bizarre incident does not occur again.
“The blood -letting from the Herdsmen attacks must stoр!
“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visit to commiserate with the people of the state in the aftermath of the attack and his directive that the attackers be fished out and brought to book.
“We also note media reports of the arrests made by the Inspector-General of Police in connection with the genocidal attacks.
“We Commend the various Federal government agencies and officials, the Benue state and Local Government Officials for their various interventions to bring succor to the internally displaced persons from the Yelewata attack. It is however, pertinent to remind the Federal Government of the need for a holistic approach to put an end to the incessant attacks and killing of innocent farmers.
“We also call on the communities to organize themselves into Vigilante Groups for the purpose of security surveillance and intelligence sharing with security agencies for early action in the event of any threats of attack. Such Vigilante Groups should work in full collaboration with traditional rulers and the various local government councils for coordination and monitoring to ensure they operate in accordance with the laws of the land.
“Finally, we urge all concerned to do everything within their powers to stop all unwarranted killings arising from banditry and the activities of the terrorist herdsmen in all parts of the country so as not to give credence to the notion that the government is unable or incapable of securing the lives and properties of its citizens.”
