Former presidential aspirant and prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Stanley Osifo,, has called on the party’s newly appointed chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to prioritize unity and reconciliation within the APC.
Speaking with journalists in Lagos on Saturday, Osifo congratulated Yilwatda on his new role and urged him to work towards bringing back disaffected APC members who defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to internal grievances.
Osifo emphasized that Yilwatda’s leadership will face significant tests with upcoming by-elections and off-cycle governorship polls in various states.
“The chairman’s ability to unify the party will be crucial in securing victories in the August by-elections across constituencies and senatorial districts,” he said.
“Many APC members joined a coalition that adopted the ADC because they felt sidelined. Yilwatda must reach out to these members to strengthen our ranks. A larger, united APC is better for our success.”
He further advised Yilwatda to reconnect the party with its grassroots base to bolster support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The chairman must leverage his skills to fortify the APC at all levels—national, state, local government, ward, and unit,” Osifo stated.
“Engaging our diaspora members is equally vital. As chairman, Yilwatda is the party’s leader, shaping its direction and public image through his actions.”
Osifo stressed the importance of resolving internal leadership disputes and adhering to democratic principles.
“The majority should prevail, with regular elections, open opportunities for all to contest, and no member disenfranchised or intimidated,” he said.
He called for a level playing field for all aspirants, free from the influence of political godfathers, to ensure fairness and strengthen the party.
Expressing confidence in Yilwatda’s capabilities, Osifo urged the APC leadership to collaborate with the new chairman to elevate the party to new heights.
