Stranded Nigerians in CAR
By CALLISTUS OFFOR, Abuja –
Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has announced ongoing efforts to evacuate Nigerians facing alleged mistreatment in the Central African Republic (CAR).
The NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Mr. Abdur-Rahman Balogun, announced this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.
The statement said the commission has responded to a viral video highlighting the plight of Nigerians stranded in CAR.
According to the statement, the affected individuals were deceived with false promises, abandoned in a foreign country, and forced to work for 11 months without payment.
Their passports were also seized, leaving them in distress and prompting urgent calls for government intervention.
NiDCOM swiftly engaged officials at the Nigerian Embassy in CAR to address the situation.
The commission confirmed that contact has been established with the stranded Nigerians, their confiscated passports have been recovered, and arrangements are being made to transport them by bus to the embassy in Bangui, an eight-hour journey.
It added that the agent responsible for their ordeal has been identified.
NiDCOM expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Embassy officials for their prompt response and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe return of the affected citizens.
