Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal
Zamfara State Government has said it is putting final touches to a major social-welfare initiative that will see 200 orphans married off and another 200 empowered with business capital.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday in Gusau by the Zamfara Zakkat and Endowment Board’s spokesperson, Jamilu Sani.
Mr. Sani revealed that the event will take place on Monday, Nov. 23, at the board’s headquarters.
According to the statement, the Executive Secretary, Mallam Habibu Balarabe, explained that all beneficiaries have gone through the necessary screening process.
He noted that the mass wedding will run side-by-side with an empowerment programme targeting an additional set of 200 female orphans.
“The board will empower another 200 female orphans with capital to enable them to start small-scale businesses,” Balarabe said.
He explained that the beneficiaries recently completed a three-week training that covered poultry farming and basic computer skills. Starter packs, he added, will be distributed during the ceremony to help them launch their ventures.
Balarabe also highlighted some of the board’s ongoing interventions, saying it has settled debts for 200 individuals in Shari’ah Courts and Correctional Centres across the state—an effort that has “secured their freedom” and eased financial burdens on their families.
