Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal has said the state is in dire need of the Federal Government’s support to complement its efforts toward curbing the spate of insecurity there.

Lawal disclosed this to State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that checking the activities of kidnappers and bandits in Zamfara would bring lasting peace not only to Zamfara, but to the country in general.

“As you’re fully aware, we as governors don’t have control over the military and the police. It’s the responsibility of the federal government. So, we need to inform Mr President so that we can get his blessing,” he said.

Lawal said that the state government’s efforts at setting up the Community Protection Guards would require more collaboration with other security agencies under the purvey of the Federal Government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Zamfara is one of the states in the North West hit by security challenges which include banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping.

“The meeting with Tinubu has reassured me of the dedication of the administration to protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians.

“I briefed him about the security situation in Zamfara and sought for his assistance so that we can bring this to an end.

“I have the assurance of Mr President that he will handle the issue personally. And very soon, something drastic will happen that will bring peace to our region,” he said.(NAN)
