Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has donated N300 million to the Tribute To Our Troops (TTOT) foundation, a foundation established to cater for the families and relations of Nigerian fallen heroes across the country.
He also pledged to collaborate with the foundation to ensure smooth, effective and coordinated empowerment and entrepreneurship training programmes for the families of the fallen heroes.
The governor, who stated stated this at the 2024 Tribute to Our Troops (TTOT) ceremony held at the Chabbal Military formation and 212 Battalion parade ground Maimamalari Barrack Maiduguri, also promised to sponsor the primary and secondary education of the children of the fallen heroes.
Represented by the Borno State Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, the governor recognized and appreciated the efforts and sacrifices of the Nigerian Army in the counter insurgency fight against the Boko Haram insurgents.
He also thanked the military for the restoration of peace in the state , stressing that, without the military support, no meaningful peace and development could have achieved while appreciating the federal government for its concern and role in the restoration Peace in the state and relief materials to IDPs and flood disaster victims.
In his remark, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, Nigerian Army Headquarters Maimamalari Cantonment Maiduguri, Major Geni Abubakar G. L. Haruna acknowledged the initiative of the Tribute To Our Troops (TTOT) as part of the Nigerian Military platform to add value, welfare and dignity to the fallen heroes.
He also appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) , Gen. Chris G. Musa and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede for their support and concern while praying for the repose souls of the fallen heroes, who paid their supreme price to defend and protect the integrity and sovereignty of their fatherland.
Maj. Gen. Haruna commended the convener for initiating the program and pledged full support to the program in recognition of the efforts and sacrifices of the fallen heroes in protection and defence of the country while assuring that, all the necessary support expected from the command would be extended.
Earlier, the Convener of the Tribute to our troops foundation, Princess Olivia Adom, said the aim of the Tribute to our troops (TTOT) is to remember our fallen heroes and their sacrifices as well as contributions to national growth, peace and security as patriotic Nigerians who have signed off their lives and paid the supreme price to unite, stabilize and protect our fatherland.
According to her, the entertainment celebrations were aimed at comforting their souls and making the families and relations of the fallen heroes feel sense of belonging to cushion their minds and also rejoice with them and give them hope.
TTOT also announced a cash donation of N100,000 to one of the children of the fallen heroes, Miss Fatima while the State Commissioner of Information and Internal Security Professor Usman Tar also announced a donation of N100,000 each to four (4) other children of the fallen heroes, who spoke about the bravery of their deceased parents.
