Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has inaugurated three high-level strategic committees to foster governance and development of the state.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Conference Room of the Governor’s Office, Musa Usman Secretariat, Maiduguri, with the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Bukar Tijani representing the governor.
He said the committees have the following terms of references; to review the revitalization of cultural heritage, to enhance technical and vocational education, and promote urban development through systematic street naming and house numbering.
According to him, the Committee on Resuscitation and Rehabilitation of Museums, Historical, and Heritage Sites is chaired by Prof. Abba Isa Tijjani, a renowned expert and former Director-General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments.
The committee comprises of distinguished members such as, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, Alhaji Zannah Boguma, and representatives from various cultural institutions.
The committee mandate is to assess the condition of existing museums and heritage sites, recommend rehabilitation plans, and propose new museum locations in all the 27 Local Government Areas and seven emirate councils. The committee is expected to submit its report within six weeks.
The Committee on the Review of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is led by Mal. Goni Ibrahim, the Special Technical Adviser on Vocational Training to the Governor.
The committee has experts in education and training, including Dr. Aliyu Idris and Dr. Maryam Abdulkadir Ayeye.
The task of the committee is to evaluate the current TVET structure and propose reforms to strengthen vocational skills development in the state. The committee’s report is due in eight weeks.
While the Committee on Street Naming and House Numbering is chaired by Prof. Usman A. Tar, Honourable Commissioner for Ministry of Information and Internal Security,.
The committee’e terms of reference include: to enhance urban planning, improve navigation, and preserve Borno’s cultural identity.
Others include to conduct a comprehensive review of existing street names and house numbers, naming or renaming streets to reflect Borno’s cultural and historical identity, and updating data in Google Maps, public directories, and official records.
Other members of the committee include representatives from relevant Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and security agencies.
He noted that these committees play a vital role in supporting administrative efficiency, improving emergency response systems, and boosting infrastructural organization in Borno State.
