Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed the commitment of Northern Governors to restructure and reposition the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) into a globally competitive conglomerate.
Governor Zulum, who chairs the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) Implementation Committee on NNDC restructuring, stated this during his visit to the company’s Corporate Headquarters in Kaduna on Monday.
He described the NNDC as the last enduring legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, and emphasized the need to strengthen it as a unifying economic institution for the region.
Addressing NNDC staff, Zulum assured them that their welfare and career progression remain a top priority in the ongoing restructuring process, urging them to remain supportive, calm, and law-abiding.
“On behalf of the Northern Governors, I pledge that you will not be let down. NNDC will be repositioned to operate as a world-class conglomerate that will bring pride to the region,” Zulum said.
Staff of the company commended the 19 Northern Governors, particularly Governor Zulum, for his dedication to championing the company’s revival and repositioning.
The governor was joined by the Deputy Governors of Plateau, Josephine Piyo; Kwara, Kayode Alabi; and Zamfara, Mani Mallam Mummuni, who represented their principals.
Also present were NNDC Board Chairman, Alhaji Lamis S. Dikko (Ajiyan Katsina), the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Malam Shehu Mai-Bornu, alongside other senior management officials.
Zulum’s visit came shortly after the NSGF Implementation Committee held a strategic meeting with the NNDC Board of Directors at the Hassan Usman Katsina House, Kaduna.
