
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, received an award of excellence at the World Teacher’s Day celebration in Abuja on October 5, 2024.
The event, themed “Valuing Teachers Voices Towards A Social Contract For Education,” recognized Zulum’s efforts in educational reforms, infrastructure development, teacher training, and funding.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, presented the award and praised Zulum as an “education-friendly Governor.” Other awardees included the Governors of Kano, Kebbi, Oyo, Benue, and Enugu States.
The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and emphasized the importance of teachers’ dedication to their civic responsibility, especially with the current Local Government Areas (LGAs) autonomy, which will ensure adequate support and attention to education at the grassroots level.
The Borno State Deputy Governor, HE Hon. (Dr) Umar Kadafur, led a prominent delegation from the state to receive the award. The delegation included the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Prof Bulama Kagu; Executive Chairman of TSB, Alh Ali Kaka; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovations, Hajjia Aishatu Asheik; Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Dr Hyelni Mshelia; former Deputy Governor of Adamawa State; former Commissioner; Borno Education Secretary Forum representative, Prof Umar Goni; Special Advisers; Senior Special Assistants (SSA); and State APC Organising Secretary.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume; Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf; Kebbi State Governor, represented by the Speaker of the House of Assembly; Minister of State for Education, Hon. Dr. Yusuf T. Sununu; Minister of Budget and Planning, HE Atiku Bagudu; Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Gwarzo; National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT); DG UNESCO; Members of the National Assembly; and others.
