Zulum releases N500 million scholarship fund for medical, nursing students

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has approved the release of N500m as registration fees for 19 medical and 93 nursing students.

The Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, Malam Bala Isa, disclosed this on while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Maidugiri.

He said the 19 indigent medical students are studying at Suez University of Egypt, while the 93 nursing students are in University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) Nursing School.

The executive secretary added that the scholarships payment was part of Governor Zulum administration’s commitment to the 25 year development plan and the 10 year strategic transformation initiative.

According to him, government is committed to sponsoring the students throughout the duration of their studies. He therefore, urged the students to be hardworking and to face their studies seriously to justify government’s confident on them to excel and efforts toward sponsoring their education.

He expressed appreciation over the governor’s empathy and concern to the students at a time when majority of them and their parents are facing several challenges.

Responding, a nursing student from UMTH, Abdulazeez Mohammed, thanked the state government for the intervention as the scholarships will assist them in many ways, while pledging to effectively make good use of the opportunities given to them by the state government.

“We are grateful for this intervention, as many of us from poor parents were in dilemma before this major relief came”, Mohammed said.
