
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has announced a donation of bungalow flats to some serving and retiring Professor of university of Maiduguri.
Governor Zulum also announced the intention of building additional housing estates for the staff of the university while pledging to resolve the varsity’s electricity and water supply problems .
The governor made announcement on Saturday during a public lecture organized in honour of the outgoing Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba as part of his send off ceremony held at Muhammadu Idimi International Conference Hall.
He however directed the varsity authority to nominate three to four personalities within the university community that will liaise with the state government with a view to identify major problems of the institution and proffer possible solutions on how the state government can intervene towards addressing the challenges of the university.
Zulum commended the leadership style of the outgoing VC and level of infrastructural and academic projects, programmes , facilities, among others executed, despite the notable challenges the institution was confronted with
According to him, despite the challenges and constraints the Vice Chancellor was facing in managing the affairs of the institution, his tenure has the best management of the university, infrastructural development, academic progress, and leadership, particularly, the solar energy power supply of 12 and 20 KVA which have reached advanced stage of completion alongside some projects.

In his presentation of the public lecture titled,” Leadership challenges in Nigerian Universities”, Professor Junrilla Dahiru Amin, gave a brief history of Nigerian public and private universities, their growth, capacity, infrastructures, academic research and entrepreneurship, among others.
He also spoke on under funding of universities, financial mismanagement and misappropriation, students and staff welfare and unionism , socio economic activities within the university community, quality assurance of academic studies, training and research of lecturers and other staff of the universities.

The former VC of UNIMAID and Federal University Dutse, as well as Secretary, NUC , Professor J. D. Amin, highlighted some of the challenges of managing a university to include: management of resources, staff, students, security, politics, welfare of staff and students, unionism in campus , religious and social.acticitiwa among others.
He also called for the introduction of computer drive studies and social media technology to transform and train youths on new technology and powerful communication tools such as the Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
Prof. Amin urged students and people to use social.media properly and to desist from writing hate speeches, while stressing the need for the social media to be controlled and managed by regulatory bodies to checkmate excess in the utilization of the new technologies.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Bulama Mali. Gubio prayed for peace, unity and stability of the university while calling on the staff and lecturers of the varsity to continue to be good parents and guardians of the students .
The outgoing Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, in his vote of thanks appreciated all for their support, contributions , prayers, wishes and encouragement while thanking the management staff and students of the institution for their support and cooperation.
