All Democratic Alliance (ADA) has commended Nigerians for what it described as their “uncommon resilience” in the face of mounting economic and social pressures, while urging citizens to embrace peaceful, lawful and constitutional resistance against governance practices that undermine their welfare and rights.
In a New Year message issued on January 1, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Leye Igbabo, the political association praised Nigerians for their patience and collective sense of responsibility despite worsening living conditions across the country.
“The All Democratic Alliance (ADA) warmly salutes Nigerians for their uncommon resilience, patience, stoicism and collective sense of responsibility in the face of severe economic and social challenges confronting the nation,” the statement read.
ADA, however, expressed deep concern over what it described as persistent governance challenges, including policy instability and uncertainty, which it said have fuelled public anxiety and eroded confidence in both the economy and public institutions.
While acknowledging the strength and endurance of Nigerians, the group argued that the moment had come for citizens to take a firmer civic stance, especially as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
“While the endurance and resilience displayed by Nigerians are admirable and perhaps unparalleled, we respectfully submit that the moment has come for citizens to peacefully, lawfully and constitutionally resist any further acts of unconstitutionality, insensitivity and governance practices that undermine the welfare, dignity and rights of the Nigerian people,” ADA stated.
Reflecting on the nation’s political journey, the alliance noted that successive leaderships had often raised high hopes among citizens, hopes which, it said, have largely remained unfulfilled. According to the statement, many Nigerians are now grappling with “deepening hardship, poverty, insecurity, economic uncertainty, social anxiety and emerging concerns over national sovereignty.”
“It has therefore become evident that the aspirations and expectations of Nigerians remain largely unmet,” the group said, adding that the prevailing national disillusionment highlights the urgent need for “a renewed commitment to people-centred, accountable and constitutional governance.”
The alliance also positioned itself as a credible alternative within Nigeria’s democratic space, insisting that the country urgently requires principled and law-abiding political options capable of restoring public trust.
“The All Democratic Alliance wishes to state, with utmost sincerity and respect for constitutional order, that Nigeria is in urgent need of credible, principled and law-abiding political alternatives capable of restoring public trust and confidence in governance,” the statement said.
It further expressed concern over what it described as persistent attempts to deny ADA registration, warning that such actions threaten democratic pluralism.
“It is also in this light that we view the persistent efforts to deny ADA its rightful registration as deeply concerning for democratic pluralism,” the party noted.
ADA cautioned against the shrinking of democratic space and the suppression of new political platforms, warning that such trends pose serious risks to democratic choice, national unity and long-term stability.
“This is a path Nigeria must not follow,” it stressed.
Calling for peaceful civic engagement, the group urged Nigerians to reject political coercion, exclusion and policies that impose unnecessary hardship on citizens.
“The destiny of Nigeria ultimately rests with Nigerians themselves. No external force is required. The Constitution has already vested sovereignty in the people,” the statement said, adding that what is needed is “the collective resolve to exercise that sovereignty responsibly, lawfully and courageously.”
Reaffirming its commitment to democracy and national unity, ADA pledged to work with Nigerians toward economic recovery and national renewal.
“The All Democratic Alliance assures Nigerians of its total commitment to democracy, national unity, social justice and economic recovery,” it said, declaring its readiness to partner with citizens “in a genuine, peaceful and constitutional rescue mission aimed at redirecting our nation from its present distress toward stability, prosperity and shared progress.”
The statement concluded with a call for national goodwill: “God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
