Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Akuta, has called on Nigerians—especially supporters in Benue State—to strengthen their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the nation heads toward the 2027 elections.
Speaking in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area, Akuta urged residents to stand firmly behind both the President and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, whom he described as the rallying pillar for the North Central region.
Akuta made the remarks during a colourful reception held in honour of Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Agune, a UK-based cleric celebrated for his remarkable contributions to community development. Rev. Agune received the chieftaincy title “Sema Wan U Mbazeku” and an Ambassadorial Award of Kindness and Community Development, conferred by the Nongo Agune family in partnership with community elders, youths and the NKST Asukunya congregation.
Highlighting reasons for renewed political support, Akuta noted that Benue has begun witnessing meaningful development under the current administration. He referenced key federal interventions including the award of the River Buruku bridge contract, the Wurukum Flyover, and the appointment of several Benue indigenes into top government positions.
The NSC boss also commended Rev. Agune for rising from humble beginnings to become a symbol of hope and compassion, praising his commitment to education and grassroots upliftment.
Former Auditor General of the Federation, Samuel Ukura, added his voice, confirming that the honouree has consistently invested in the younger generation—funding scholarships for Tarka students, employing teachers in community schools, distributing learning materials, and supporting vulnerable families with health and social needs.
Rev. Agune, visibly moved by the recognition, described the honour as “overwhelming” and thanked his family, church elders, community members, and guests who travelled from across the country. He pledged to intensify his humanitarian efforts, saying the gesture was a motivation to serve even more passionately.
The event, filled with cultural colour and heartfelt tributes, doubled as both a celebration of personal achievement and a call for unity and political continuity as Benue seeks greater dividends of democracy in the years ahead.
